Student plans festival to fund ambulances for war zones
A Glasgow Caledonian University student who donated ambulances to help refugees in war zones is organising a cultural festival for 15,000 people to raise funds for other vehicles.
Umran Ali Javaid is planning on hosting Fun For Life Fest in the city's Tollcross Park on August 2.
The Tourism and Events postgraduate student launched the festival, which will feature musicians, comedians, and creative workshops, after utilising the University's Entrepreneurial Hub.
Members of the Hub, which is open to students, staff, and alumni, can access dedicated workspaces, meeting rooms, and the opportunity to secure seed funding.
Umran, who has driven more than 40 second-hand emergency vehicles to conflict zones including Gaza, Ukraine, Myanmar, Syria, Iraq and Yemen, said: "The Entrepreneurial Hub has been very good. I've been able to set up business meetings here and meet a lot of professionals.
"I've also been able to meet mentors, who deliver talks here, and learn something new all the time."
Some of the proceeds from the festival will be used to buy 15 ambulances to help people in need in conflict zones around the world.
