Hundreds applied for the 2023 Women in Film and TV mentoring scheme

Two Glasgow Caledonian graduates and a PhD student have been selected for the prestigious Women in Film and TV UK mentoring scheme.

River City script producer Joanne Sneddon and writer Ali Taylor, both graduates of our acclaimed MA TV Fiction Writing programme, were handpicked from hundreds of applicants from across the UK.

Research student and scriptwriter Jess Moore, who is currently writing a drama about climate change as part of her PhD, has also been selected to take part in the 2023 programme.

Participants will be paired up with senior industry professionals for one-to-one mentoring alongside peer-to-peer training and bespoke career and personal development workshops over the next six months.

The scheme in Scotland is supported by Netflix through its Fund for Creative Equity, which is dedicated to helping build new opportunities for underrepresented communities within entertainment.

Professor Catriona Miller, of the Department of Media and Journalism at Glasgow Caledonian, said: "We're absolutely delighted to have no less than two alumni and one current research student selected for this prestigious and high-profile scheme."

Katie Bailiff, chief executive of WFTV, added: "The mentoring scheme is going from strength to strength.

"Past outcomes show us that the scheme’s ingredients successfully unlock our mentees’ potential, enabling them to become the next generation of industry leaders."
