University gears up to host MeCCSA 2023
The impact of streaming services and AI on the rapidly changing media landscape will be explored when Glasgow Caledonian hosts the annual conference of MeCCSA - the higher education association for media, communication and cultural studies.
Registration for the UK conference, which will be held on campus from September 4-6 and is expected to attract around 250 delegates, is open until July 31.
Keynote speakers include Professor Annette Hill, of Jönköping University, Sweden, who has analysed how consumers roam across streaming platforms such as Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify.
Professor Graham Meikle, of the University of Westminster, will present a paper on "deep fake" videos and their use on social media.
Meanwhile, award-winning executive producer Narinder Minhas, a former commissioning editor for Channel 4, will outline the challenges facing TV production companies.
MeCCSA membership is open to academics who teach and research in the fields of media and cultural studies; film, TV and screen studies; digital media and culture; media production, journalism, radio, advertising, PR, creative writing, and publishing.
Professor Simon McKerrell, Head of the Department of Media and Journalism, said: "We are delighted to be hosting the MeCCSA conference for 2023 here at Glasgow Caledonian.
"The programme is incredibly diverse and has academic research across multiple fields from media ethics and public service broadcasting to feminism and government policy. I look forward to welcoming delegates from across the UK and beyond to Glasgow in September."
