Social Worker in the Renfrewshire Learning Disabilities Team

Lucy, a dedicated Social Worker with the Renfrewshire Learning Disability Team, has been honoured for her exceptional contributions. Her journey began with personal challenges, including caring for her younger brother after her mother’s diagnosis with alcohol related brain damage (ARBD). Lucy’s advocacy extends to social media, where she raises awareness about ARBD. She successfully campaigned for bursaries for social work students in Scotland, and during the pandemic, Lucy fought for the rights of care home residents. She continues to influence social work policy through her advisory roles on national forums.

I am delighted and honoured to receive the title of GCU’s Alumnus of the Year. I cannot speak highly enough about Glasgow Caledonian. It is both humbling and inspiring to be recognised by an institution that played such an important role in shaping my journey as a social worker. My time at GCU laid a strong foundation for the work I do each day. I am forever grateful for the support and guidance I received. Thank you for this recognition. It fuels my passion to continue making a positive impact in people’s lives.
