HAPPIA Network

Health Action in Policy and Practice in Africa (HAPPIA)

The idea for the network emerged from connecting with talented individuals from the sub-Saharan region who chose to study for the Master of Public Health at Glasgow Caledonian. These individuals were passionate about contributing to their home countries and shared a strong interest in research. They were actively involved in research through their MPH, doctoral studies, or early postdoctoral work, focusing on young people's health and well-being. Regular meetings to exchange perspectives highlighted the opportunity to support their aspirations through research, leading to the creation of a network aimed at building research capacity in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

The network's initial focus is on young people's health and well-being, with the broader goal of improving health and well-being across the life course for all individuals in SSA. The network's work is guided by a social determinants approach, considering the feasibility and appropriateness of individual and community participation in health, and applying a salutogenic lens in all its activities.
