Owner Old Burgundy
During Sonia Jindal’s time at GCU London, she studied MSc Luxury Brand Marketing and MSc Fashion Business Creation. It helped her develop a strong foundation in the fashion industry and she gained practical experience through internships and industry collaborations. After graduating in 2022, she was inspired to create her own fashion brand Old Burgundy.
Sonia created Old Burgundy as she believed there was a lack of compelling themes and patterns in the ‘scarves and stoles’ category in the market. She also noticed that many fashion brands do not offer vegan alternatives to conventional silk and wanted to make a change in the market.
At Old Burgundy they offer a “collection of exquisite scarves and stoles that are crafted from the finest wood pulp based cellulosic silk.” They are committed to using only the finest materials and working with the most skilled artisans to create unique and eye-catching products.
Additionally, they strongly stand against animal exploitation in their silk sourcing. The production process makes use of natural dyes and uses about 10-12 times less water. They also deal with low quantity of produce to ensure minimal environmental impact and zero wastage while also providing eco-friendly packaging.
The brand is inspired by the timeless beauty and elegance of old school love.
“We are synonymous with old school love in our own thinking and style, and we run unparalleled to any other label out there in every step of our way.”
Sonia’s advice for any students thinking about starting their own business is to “never give up in your career, even when the road ahead seems difficult. Every challenge you face is an opportunity to learn and grow. Keep pushing yourself to be your best, and don't be afraid to take risks and try new things. With hard work, determination, and a positive attitude, you can achieve great things in your career.”
"GCU provides students with a high-quality education that is relevant to the needs of employers and the wider community. The university's programs helped me to develop my critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as my subject-specific knowledge."
