After completing his Post-Doc in Entrepreneurship at Babson College in Massachusetts, William Mayfield was offered the chance to move across the world to Scotland to teach full time in an Entrepreneurship program at GCU. This was also where he decided to complete his second doctorate.

William found the move from the US to Scotland an extremely eye-opening and exciting experience. He explained that the move gave him a “new understanding of the wider world and the many opportunities he became engaged with in the entrepreneurial community of Scotland." He said "it changed his life forever” This experience inspired him to start his entrepreneurial adventure leading him to create the company FricknFrack Games.

FricknFrack Games is an independent video game development studio whose goal is to create entertaining and exciting games for the public. The team is made up of employees both from the United States and the United Kingdom and have a small group of interns who work with them on specific short-term projects for the games they are developing.

The team are a group multifaceted game developers and artists with deep passions for games and what games can do for people. On the 11th of July they released the first game in their DIY game series called ‘ToolCity’. The game’s genre is casual, allowing them to keep the focus on fun and play while also providing DIY instruction for the player.

William's goal for FricknFrack Games is to continue creating content players will enjoying playing, while also increasing the number of markets they serve.

For any students interested in creating their own business, William's advice is to “seek entrepreneurs having come before you. Sit down with them at the pub or for a coffee and tell them what you are thinking. Seek their advice. Know what you want to do. Learn and experience the industry you are seeking to enter.”

The students at GCU were great to work with and learn from. Working on my thesis with Scottish Enterprise and meeting the Angel investors across Scotland while living in a foreign country was eye opening and exciting.
