Finance Assistant at Incentive Games
Daiana graduated from Glasgow Caledonian in 2022, with a BA in International Business with Finance and is now working full-time as a Finance Assistant at Incentive Games.
When deciding where to pursue her degree, Daiana found Glasgow Caledonian to be the perfect fit. She was interested in studying in an English-speaking country, and at the time, Scotland’s policy of offering free education to European students was a significant draw. Glasgow's vibrant city life only added to the appeal. In the end, though, it was GCU's unique mission of 'Common Good' that really connected with her values, making it the ideal choice.
"I think one of my favourite memories at GCU was spending time in the library. I absolutely loved it! I spent countless hours there, pulling all-nighters and doing what I called 12-hour studying shifts. Those moments, especially with friends, are core memories for me at GCU.”
Daiana's career journey began with an internship she secured after her third-year studies, working as a Cybersecurity intern for the Strathclyde Pension Fund at Glasgow City Council.
"I found the internship through a GCU advertisement, and while still at Glasgow City Council, I received a full-time job offer as an Administrative Officer for the Social Work department where I worked full time in the role throughout my fourth year."
After graduating from Glasgow Caledonian and pursuing her master’s degree in international accounting and finance at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Daiana moved into her current role as a Finance Assistant at Incentive Games.
“I absolutely love my current role, it’s a start-up so it has a very young and dynamic vibe and having Fridays off as part of our four-day work week is fantastic!”
“Our finance team is very small, it’s just me and the CFO, which allows me to gain exposure and hands on experience to help expand my skills and knowledge in the finance industry.”
“My ambition for the future is to become a chartered accountant, to complete all the necessary exams and master the skills and knowledge needed to excel in this field.”
“Beyond that, I aim to share my journey and insights more widely. I want to ensure that the lessons I've learned and the experiences I've had reach others, helping to benefit and inspire them in their own careers."
“My advice to future students is to think outside the box. When I started university, my family couldn’t afford it, so I had to get creative.”
“At just 16, I approached local businesses to fundraise, eventually raising enough to cover my initial expenses. So don’t be afraid to take unconventional approaches - if you know what you want and are determined, you’ll find a way!”
