Dr Bebe Khadeeja earned her master's in public health from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2024 and is eager to advance her career in public health, with a focus on improving health outcomes in underserved communities.
Bebe was drawn to Glasgow Caledonian for its strong emphasis on social justice, global health, and commitment to the Common Good.
“As the first girl in my family to pursue a doctoral degree and study abroad, I wanted a university that would support my ambitions and provide a nurturing environment.”
“GCU's reputation in public health education, combined with its diverse and inclusive community, made it the ideal choice for me to achieve my goals and make a positive impact in the field of public health.”
During her studies, Bebe encountered significant personal and health challenges, but the unwavering support and guidance from Dr. Abdul Razak, Martin Murchie, and her supervisor Craig motivated her to excel and achieve at the highest level.
“Their dedication to their work, their support for their students, and their commitment to making a difference in public health have motivated me to strive for excellence and to remain resilient in the face of challenges.”
“These challenges also helped me learn the importance of resilience and perseverance. Life can present unexpected and difficult challenges, but with determination and the right support, it is possible to overcome them and achieve your goals!”
Along with developing strong relationships with her mentors, Bebe also created strong networks and friendships with her classmates, which enhanced her experiences and aided in her development on both a personal and professional level.
“The sense of community and belonging at GCU was incredibly important, as it provided a safe and supportive environment where I could thrive.”
“The friendships and connections I made with fellow students from diverse backgrounds enriched my perspective and will remain invaluable throughout my life”
Bebe's time at GCU has strengthened her commitment to making a meaningful impact on public health. Looking ahead, she outlines her goals with determination:
“My ambitions have grown stronger since leaving university, and I am more determined than ever to work with international health organizations to design and implement effective health interventions.”
“I aspire to contribute to policy-making processes that ensure equitable access to healthcare services and ultimately return to my home country to drive sustainable health improvements and empower future generations.”
GCU provided not just an education but a transformative life experience that has shaped who I am today.
