Customer Journey Manager Lloyd's Banking Group
John graduated in 2023 with a BA in Finance, Investment and Risk and is now working in a leadership role with the UK’s largest retail bank, Lloyds Banking Group.
He first chose to study at the University after hearing his friends speak highly of their experience and seeing their success after graduating.
When applying for University, John became particularly interested in the Finance, Investment and Risk degree which he started in 2021.
During his studies, he enjoyed working on group projects and collaborating with his classmates.
John said one of his favourite modules was Behavioural Finance because it unpacked the heuristics, or thought processes, that affect decision-making in both personal and corporate finance.
Overall, John said the course helped equip him with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the financial sector.
“GCU was a fantastic experience where you not only feel equipped to start a career, but also where you meet amazing people," he said.
While studying, John was an active member of several University societies.
He was Vice President of the Risk and Finance Society at GCU, which received the University's Best New Society award.
In this role, John helped work on creating valuable experiences for students outside their studies, such as industry and social events.
John was also a proud member of both the business and athletic societies during his study, where he would attend various social events throughout the year.
Since gaining his degree at Glasgow Caledonian, John has gained valuable experience in the financial sector. He has been with Lloyd's Banking Group for more than two years.
Shortly after joining the company, John was promoted to Business Analyst, which involved recognising ways to solve problems and gain a better understanding of financial products and services.
Recently John progressed to the role of Customer Journey Manager, using the skills learned in his degree to ensure the best outcome for customers.
"In this position, I play a key part in bringing business and technology teams together to ensure a positive experience for the customer," he said.
"I facilitate an effective end-to-end experience for all stakeholders in the risk function. This involves frequent communication with various teams within the platform, such as engineers and business units, to ensure effective collaboration, problem solving and project management."
In the future, John hopes to continue to progress within his banking role to a position where he can make an even bigger contribution to important business decisions.
