Kevin Uba

Today we spotlight Glasgow Caledonian graduate and User Experience Designer for STV, Kevin Uba.

Kevin had previously obtained a degree in Computer Science at the Veritas University in Nigeria; however, he was always interested in user experience and interaction design so began looking into pursuing a master's degree.

“Reading up on the individual modules, I discovered that GCU had the practical aspects of user experience as well as a research aspect which many other universities at the time didn’t seem to prioritise.

“I had heard good things about Glasgow and thought it would be an amazing opportunity to study at the University and in the city. The lecturers at the University were fantastic and were always there to help whenever you needed, which was great encouragement for my studies in the long run.”

In the final year of his studies, Kevin acquired a three-month internship where he could use the knowledge and skills he had developed at Glasgow Caledonian and put it into practice in a career role. After completing his internship, he acquired a permanent role at STV in his current position as a User Experience Designer.

“As a User Experience Designer, I strategically redesign core conversion pages and develop new features to optimize user engagement and overall experience.

“I use research and proven design methods to turn customer problems into effective improvements for mobile and web platforms. I also run user research and testing to find challenges and measure satisfaction, helping me deliver focused and impactful solutions.”

One of his standout projects at STV so far has been creating a comprehensive design system.

“This system made the design process more efficient and consistent across all platforms, boosting both team productivity and user experience. It was the result of collaboration, research, and iteration, transforming how we approached design projects.”

Kevin is eager to continue growing his career as a User Experience Designer, and pushing the boundaries of what he can achieve

“My goal is to not only elevate my expertise but also to collaborate with and learn from some of the brightest minds in the field.

“By surrounding myself with industry leaders and forward-thinkers, I aim to continuously evolve, contribute to groundbreaking projects, and hopefully make a good impact in the UX space.”
