Creative Director at Launch Digital
When it came to choosing a university to study graphic design, Creative Director at Launch Digital Richard Longmuir says Glasgow Caledonian stood out from the rest.
“GCU presented itself as the ideal choice for me to pursue my educational and professional goals, offering a blend of cutting-edge curriculum, modern amenities, and a vibrant learning community,” he says.
“I have a lot of fond memories. One standout aspect was undoubtedly the warmth and approachability of the lecturers. They had a genuine interest in engaging with students on a personal level.
“Another highlight was the friendship within our five-a-side football games. With students from Italy, Vietnam, Poland, Pakistan, Turkey, and beyond, our shared passion for the sport bridged cultural divides, uniting us in friendly competition and unforgettable shared experiences.”
Richard says Glasgow Caledonian’s practical approach to teaching helped him learn to meet the working demands of the industry and gain the confidence to pursue his career goals.
Since graduating in 2010, he has continued to hone his expertise, working in various roles across the design industry before rising the ranks to become Launch Digital’s Creative Director.
The role has seen Richard work with organisations, both large and small, across the globe and lead several major projects for the well-known creative marketing agency.
“My experience has been characterised by meaningful collaborations, impactful projects, and the opportunity to make a difference,” he says.
“I had the privilege of leading a comprehensive rebranding for the company. This project not only showcased my creative vision and strategic thinking but also significantly enhanced the company's brand identity and market positioning.”
Richard has also used his skills and experience to collaborate with several important local charities, including Launch Foods, which helps feed hungry children across Glasgow.
“I find it’s so important to follow your passions and find what resonates with you; it results in the best work you can do,” he says.
On top of his busy Creative Director role, Richard is also passionate about encouraging future designers, returning to GCU as a part time lecturer and volunteering as a mentor with the university’s Mentoring Internships Network and Talks (MINT) Programme.
“Mentoring students and fostering the development of the next generation of designers is a priority for me,” he says.
“I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences with aspiring designers and guiding them as they navigate their educational and professional journeys.
“I always tell them, trust in yourself and your abilities.”
