Social Enterprise Archiving Toolkit
Welcome to the Social Enterprise Archiving Toolkit (SEAT). This is a tool to help people value and share their stories and ensure that they are kept safe for future generations. Aimed at the social enterprise sector it could be used by any community. It has three sections which lead you through activities to improve record keeping practice and create an archive which will benefit your organisation. The fourth section directs you to other useful online resources. SEAT was created thanks to Scottish Government funding and a vision of grassroots archiving.
Watch this short video before you start to find out how to use the toolkit.
Enter the toolkit using the links below. From there you will be able to navigate to all the toolkit pages from the left-hand menu. Work through each page and activity in the order listed.
1. Your story
Your story helps you to look at your organisation’s story and the value it offers to the organisation itself, your local community and the Scottish social enterprise sector as a whole. It will guide you through the different types of materials that can be used to tell your story and start you on a journey to discover what you have.
2. Keep it safe
The next step of the journey is to gather together all the materials that tell your story and protect them. Keep it safe introduces the risks to your digital and physical materials and will help you to sort through them and package them together in an archive which you can then add to as part of your routine working practices.
3. Share it
Having gone to the effort of creating your archive you don’t want to just walk away and forget about it. Share it helps you to look at your archive as a valuable resource and shows how you can use it to the benefit of your organisation and others.
4. Explore more
The toolkit has introduced you to record keeping and archiving at a basic level. If you are interested in finding out more or taking it further, Explore more will direct you to websites which discuss these and related topics in more depth.
