Eresource troubleshooting

You must have a domain username and password to use the library’s electronic databases, journals and ebooks.

Accessing eresources via the library website

Where possible you should connect to eresources through the library website. The following pages use customised links which will prompt you to enter your domain username and password to use a resource.

Accessing eresources directly

You can connect to many of our eresources directly, without going through the library website. To connect directly follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the database or journal you want to connect to
  • Click the Institutional login link (sometimes called Shibboleth login or UK Access Management Federation login);
  • Select the University's location - UK;
  • Select Glasgow Caledonian University from the list of institutions;
  • Login using your domain username and password.

Password resources

A small number of eresources cannot be accessed with a domain username and password. You can find a list of these resources, together with their usernames and passwords, on GCULearn.

Common issues

Occasionally you may receive a cookie required error. This happens when a cookie, used to validate access to an eresource, cannot be sent to a browser. To resolve this error ensure that your browser is set to accept third party cookies.

Proxy error

Occasionally you may receive an error message similar to this:

"To allow http://www.adatabase.com to be used in a starting point URL, your EZproxy administrator must first authorize the hostname of this URL in the config.txt file."

To resolve this issue please send a copy of the error message to librarysystems@gcu.ac.uk and we will resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

CSRF Token Verification Failed

Occasionally, you may receive an error message similar to this when trying to access an online resource:

"Processing Error: CSRF Token Verification Failed"

This issue is often caused by an extension or plug-in enabled in your browser. Please try using an alternative browser, such as one you don’t normally use, or use a browser in incognito mode to see if this resolves the issue.

If you continue to experience problems, please email the Electronic Resource team at ertenq@gcu.ac.uk.
