As a member of the Scottish Confederation of University and Research Libraries (SCURL), the Sir Alex Ferguson Library at GCU supports the establishment of the Scottish Universities Press (SUP).

The SUP aims to provide a clear and cost-effective route for researchers to make their work freely available to a global audience, meeting the requirements of funders and realising the ambition to extend the impact of research across society. The SUP is a fully open access and not-for-profit publishing press that is owned and managed by the participating institutions.

The SUP have also developed an Advocacy Toolkit which is aimed at academic staff at SUP institutions. The toolkit suggests approaches for promoting the SUP across academic networks and encouraging engagement with open access initiatives at Scottish Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
