Borrowing laptops
Short loan laptops (up to three hours) are available for loan to GCU students and staff. The Lapsafe laptop vending machine is located on level 0 of the library, facing the café counter.
Community members can borrow a laptop from the library desk on Level 0 for use on campus.
Laptops are provided fully charged and are not issued with a charger or bag. You must have your student or staff card in order to use this service and laptops should not be removed from the library. Below is a video guide explaining how to borrow a laptop and step by step instructions are provided further down the page.

How to borrow:
- Select "borrow laptop" on touchscreen
- Place card on contactless area to authenticate
- Accept terms and conditions (listed below)
- Locker number is displayed on screen, and corresponding locker light flashes
- Place card on appropriate column contactless area to open locker
- Take laptop and close door, ensuring charging cable is safely inside locker
- Receipts are not currently provided. Please ensure you return the laptop at the end of your study space booking.
How to return:
***Please ensure that you log off and shut down the laptop before returning it to the vending machine***
- Select "return laptop" on touchscreen
- Place card on contactless area to authenticate
- Locker number is displayed on screen, and corresponding locker light flashes
- Place laptop inside the locker, connect charging cable, and ensure door is securely closed (please note, failure to complete this step in full will result in the item remaining on your account).
Terms and Conditions:
- Any of your data on the laptop will be automatically deleted each time it is powered off or restarted. All work must be saved and backed up to an external device or online cloud storage
- Borrowed laptops remain the property of Glasgow Caledonian University and you must comply with the University’s IT Regulations and Policies
- You are fully responsible for the borrowed laptop and any loss or damage incurred
- You should contact the Library Desk immediately should you notice any damage to a laptop
- We will check laptops regularly, and where a returned laptop is found to be damaged, you will be charged for repair or replacement as described in the Library Regulations. The replacement cost is up to £500
- Laptops may be borrowed for up to three hours and must be returned by the specified loan time
- If a laptop is not returned by the due time or before the building closes, your account and borrowing rights may be suspended
- You may only borrow one laptop at a time.
