Sports clubs
Students can join a wide range of sports clubs and get involved in activities organised by fellow GCU students.
Involvement in the University's sports clubs can give the opportunity to develop the following Common Good attributes:
- Active and global citizenship
- Entrepreneurial mindset
- Responsible leadership
- Confidence
What’s involved?
GCU students can join a range of sports clubs which GCU student volunteers coordinate with support from the Students’ Association. This involves attending meetings, training sessions and playing matches against other universities. They also have the opportunity to move into committee positions and help coordinate the club they join.
How will participating in this activity/opportunity allow students to make a positive difference in the communities that we serve?
Sports clubs provide opportunities to be involved in the wider student community in Scotland by participating in local and national student events and competitions. Some sports clubs have links with local community sports clubs, and student members have the opportunity to contribute to the activities delivered by these community groups.
What are the benefits of taking part in this activity/opportunity for participating students?
Getting involved in sports clubs is a great way to make new friends, have fun, be active and feel good. There are around 28 different clubs, all organised by GCU student volunteers, and most hold weekly activities and participate in competitions throughout the year.
Participating students interact and network with sports team members from other universities, develop team working skills, boost their physical and mental wellbeing by participating in exercise, and have the opportunity to attend annual events like the Glasgow Taxis Cup and the Sports Ball.
Success stories
There are around 900 GCU student members of sports clubs, so it’s a huge community to get involved in. All the sports clubs are collectively known as the GCU Wolves; watch out for the Wolf Mascot on campus.
