GCU Students to work as Content Creators for the University
Three GCU students will be putting their social media skills to good use when they take on term-time roles as student content creators at the University.
Third year students Mollie Macsween, Keeva Rodden and Kirsty Lyle will be working with our Social Media Team to create bespoke content about the University and life as a GCU student for the University’s social media platforms, including the GCU TikTok account.
The Student Content Creators will create a variety of content and have the opportunity to come up with their own for both current and perspective students.
Mollie Macsween is in the third year of her International Marketing degree and explained her motivation for applying to the role: “I moved here from the islands so I’ve completely absorbed myself into Glasgow, I just love Glasgow as a city. I came here before I moved to visit my brother and I just fell in love with Glasgow and knew I wanted to study here and I want to show other people how good Glasgow is and GCU.”
Mollie also said that she is excited about “getting out and recording things, seeing things, recording cafes, going on walks and showing people what Glasgow is all about”. She also added that she is looking forward to creating content involving “asking students things and interviewing people because I like that. Also making a ‘day in the life of being a GCU student’ video or going out and showing off my favourite spots in Glasgow such as walks and other things I like to do”.
She also explained that she is planning ahead to life post-university and hopes that the position will look great on her CV to future employers. “It’s good to show that you’re active within the University because it means you like the University itself,” she added.
Keeva Rodden, a third year Media and Communications student said: “I’ve always been really interested in content creation and I’ve followed the GCU pages since I started, and even when I was applying here I kept an eye on the pages just to see what it was like, which did influence my decision to come here.
“I think this is a great opportunity to have some real-life experience with content creation because with the likes of Media and Communications, you do get to put things into practice but it’s all assignments with guidelines whereas this is a much more creative opportunity to put my own ideas into practice.”
Keeva said that is excited to “be able to implement my own ideas into the content going out, because sometimes I think when I scroll through social media I think ‘this would be helpful for someone our age’ but no one has posted it yet on the University’s page”.
Third year International Fashion Branding student, Kirsty Lyle said that the opportunity to become a Content Creator for the University is “a good way to get involved within the University and be part of it more”. She also said: “I’m looking forward to meeting people with the same interests as me, as in social media creation because through my course a lot of people want to be Fashion Buyers but don’t want to do the social media aspect of fashion, so I’m hoping to meet people with the same interests as me.”
Kirsty said she is planning on creating “interactive content with students because that’s something I noticed when I was looking for universities, I was looking for the ones that are interactive because moving from school to university you are going to want to make friends so I’d like to make interactive content with students on different programmes”.
She is also looking ahead to the future, she explained: “This is something that is my aspiration after my University course, to move into social media so I thought seeing as I’m doing my course here it would be good to start a job within social media at the University because then I can do them both hand in hand.”
Congratulations to Mollie, Keeva and Kirsty on their new roles! We can’t wait to see what they create.
