Law students have been showing their generous side over the festive period by hosting a charity drive for a Scottish homeless charity.

Volunteers from the GCU Law Clinic have been collecting donations for Homeless Project Scotland, a charity which gives support to homeless and vulnerable people in the form of food, emergency shelter and other wellbeing services.

From the 22nd of November to the 16th of December, volunteers asked for people to donate items such as toiletries, gloves, hats and hot water bottles to a drop-off point in the Annie Lennox Building on campus.

LLB Law student and Law Clinic volunteer Ananda Bruce explained their reasons for the charity drive, which ties in with their regular fundraising. She said: “Giving the current situation and recently with the freezing temperatures, it's nice to be able to give back to our community.

We strive to be a university for the common good, so collecting for charity is one way of doing that.”

She added: “During our Law Clinic session, the group discussion led us to talking about charity as we had just completed a blog on Pro Bono Week.

We were aware of previous years collecting for charity and with the current cost of living crisis, we felt that it would be good to do something to help. From there, we picked a charity in Glasgow and started organising what we would be doing.”

Since starting the charity drive, the Law Clinic have received numerous donations from the public and want to give their thanks to those who were able to support the winter fundraiser. Ananda explained: “We would like to thank everyone who has donated as we are blown away by the support it has received. Local businesses also donated items which was great to get the wider community involved.”
