Oluwatomisin Osinubi (Tom-Tom) has recently started her role as Vice President for the Glasgow School for Business and Society for 2024/25 following the Students’ Association elections earlier this year.

We caught up with Tom-Tom to find out what excites her about her new role and to learn more about her!

What prompted you to run in the Student Elections?

“I have always unintentionally found myself in leadership positions because I naturally inspire and influence people toward achieving a common goal. Most of the time I realize I was a leader in retrospect because I'm usually not interested in titles; I just love creatively getting things done. This is my first time stepping up to an actual titled role. As soon as I read the brief of the role, it's perks and responsibilities I knew it'd be my kind of fun. The simple but comprehensive email sent by the Students’ Association was my prompt. Read your emails humans!”

How did you feel when you found out you had been elected?

“Relieved! Campaigning was not an easy feat as this was my first time ever being involved in politics in any form and my goodness was it daunting! Thankfully with the solid support of my amazing friends & family, I pulled through. Hearing my name on the announcement day was just the right amount of gratification I needed at the time. I also felt grateful that a large number of the diverse student population believed in me and possibly enjoyed chit-chatting with me. Thank God I wasn't just a disturbance.”

What aspect of your role excites you the most?

The thought of collaborating with as many students as possible to take charge and make their university experience memorable is so hot.

What are your main goals during your time as Vice President?

“My top 3 tentative goals are

1. Increase networking opportunities on campus, encouraging students to connect wider and form instrumental relationships that can last a lifetime. (Don't just be friends with the people in your class).

2. Develop an innovation to further address accommodation challenges and help students easily live closer to campus, experience independent living (a lot of students spoke to me about this during my campaigns) and support those coming from other parts of the UK and abroad to study.

3. Improve students’ engagement with the Student Association to ensure they maximise the benefits it provides them.”

What can you bring to the role?

“My undeniable character, creativity, Innovation, Empathy and fun.”

Getting to know you…

Where did you grow up?

“Abuja, the serene capital of Nigeria

How do you spend your free time?

“Scrolling through TikTok, exercising, walking people's dogs in the park, catching up on my podcasts, Violin Lessons, Badminton, Watching or rewatching films, talking to family and friends, visiting interesting places.

What is your favourite movie?

“Technically not a movie but 'Bleach.'

Who is your hero?

“Fictional - Batman; Reality - My mum!.”

If you could have a super power, what would it be?

“This changes from time to time, but atm it's technokinesis”
