Meet Your FTO - VP SHLS Jennifer Abali
For a second successive year, Jeniffer Abali has been elected as Vice President for the School of Health and Life Sciences, following the Students’ Association’s elections in March.
We caught up with Jennifer to find out what excites her about her role this time around, and to learn more about her as a person:
What prompted you to run in the Student Elections once again?
“It’s about finishing what you started. There were things that I started and now I want to see it through. For example, I worked with the Wellbeing Team to review their service to students, and now I want to develop that further. One year is never enough!”
What aspect of your role excites you the most?
“I’m excited to see change. There were some big wins last year for the FTO Team. It’s a great feeling when you raise an issue with the university and then something gets done about it. It’s all about making change happen.”
What are your main goals in your role as Vice President?
“One of my major goals is to continue promoting mental health and wellbeing. Secondly, I want to see more home students engaging with things like events on campus.”
What can you bring to the role?
“I can bring skills and experiences that I’ve had over this past year. I think the other big thing is having that ability to bring change to the university.”
Getting to know you…
Where did you grow up?
“I grew up in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. It’s actually bigger than Glasgow and has more than three million people living in it."
How do you spend your free time?
“I’m a movie freak! I’ve watched so many recently and particularly love action films. My two recommendations are The Fall and Night Agent.”
Sticking with the theme of movies, which is your favourite?
“Titanic isn’t an action movie but I would say it’s my favourite. I love everything about it.”
Who is your hero?
“My mum.”
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
“I would actually love to fly…even though I’m scared of heights. If I had a super-power then I guess I wouldn’t be scared of anything... that’s the way I see it.”
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself…
“I actually love haggis which is pretty weird because most of my friends hate it!”
