Meet your SHLS Vice President: Friday Oshiotse
Friday Oshiotse has spoken of his delight at becoming Vice President for the School of Health and Life Sciences (SHLS) at GCU.
The Students’ Association elections were held earlier this year, with all four Full Time Officers now in their official positions. We sat down with Friday to find out more about his role and plans for the year ahead.
What made you decide to run in the elections?
“A passion to represent the interests of GCU students and advocate for their rights and needs. I also want to foster a stronger sense of community and inclusion within the university.”
How did you feel when you got elected?
“It felt great to know that I will have the privilege to be involved in policy-making processes and have a say in the decisions that affect student life and academic policies.”
What aspect of the role excites you the most?
“Being a voice in the student body and ensuring their perspectives are considered in university decisions.”
What are your main goals as VP?
“To ensure that GCU students have an outstanding learning experience. I also want to assist in the development and implementation of policies that will benefit GCU students.”
What can you bring to the role?
“As a Vice President, I will bring a combination of leadership skills, effective communication, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to represent and advocate for GCU students.”

Where did you grow up?
“Nigeria.”
How do you spend your free time?
“By watching movies, cooking, socialising, and traveling.”
What is your favourite movie?
“The Godfather.”
Who is your hero?
“My mum.”
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
“Protect people during violent conflicts or natural disasters.”
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself?
“I am a humanitarian worker who enjoys rendering voluntary services, I see this as part of my contributions to the growth of mankind.”
