Meet your SCEBE Vice President: Laiba Tareen
Laiba Tareen has recently started her role as Vice President for the Glasgow School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment for 2024/25, following the Students’ Association elections earlier this year.
We caught up with Laiba to find out what excites her about her new role and to learn more about her!
What made you decide to run in the elections?
I decided to run in the elections because I have been the student president in 2022/23, and I wanted to continue serving the student body and building on the progress we made during my previous term.
How did you feel when you got elected?
I felt extremely excited to be back in office. It was a great feeling to know that the students trusted me to represent them once again.
What aspect of the role excites you the most?
The aspect of the role that excites me the most is interacting with students and helping out students. I enjoy being a part of their university experience and making a positive impact on their lives.
What are your main goals as VP?
My main goals as VP are to lobby for student well-being and inclusion and to enhance the overall student experience on campus. I want to ensure that every student feels valued and supported.
What can you bring to the role?
I bring experience, dedication, and a deep understanding of student needs to the role. My previous term as Student President has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to effectively advocate for and implement positive changes for our student body.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Lahore, Pakistan.
How do you spend your free time?
I spend my free time hanging out with friends. It's a great way to relax and unwind.
What is your favourite movie?
My favorite movie is a Bollywood movie called Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
Who is your hero?
My hero is my father. He has always been a source of inspiration and guidance for me.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
If I could have a superpower, it would be the ability to heal others. I believe that the power to heal would make a significant positive impact on people's lives.
