GCU Law students Go The Extra Mile to raise money for legal support charity
GCU Law students have been showing their charitable side by fundraising for the Access To Justice Foundation - a legal charity which supports those who cannot afford legal representation.
Students at the GCU Law Clinic decided to get involved with the charity’s “Go The Extra Mile For Justice” fundraiser, which asks participants to do a sponsored distance-based challenge.
The GCU Law Clinic managers wanted to raise money by doing a walk each week, starting with the Student Director and 4th year LLB Law student Eisa Mahmood who chose to do his walk around Glasgow city centre.
Eisa spoke to us about why the Clinic decided to get involved and what the Access To Justice Foundation means to them. He said: “The aim of the Access To Justice foundation is to improve access to justice for the most vulnerable in society.
We assist the foundation by raising funds that will be distributed to organisations that support those who need legal help but cannot afford it.”
He added: “The GCU Law Clinic has many projects each academic year with the goal of each project being in line with the Universities Common Good values. Our senior management team agreed on this fundraiser as it helps everyone get outside after a couple of years of being stuck inside!
Not only will it help our physical and mental wellbeing, but 100% of the proceeds go towards the cause which is all to do with helping those in that that cannot afford legal assistance.
My own walk was around Glasgow City Centre and thankfully the weather held up! It was great to be in the city centre after being away for almost two years and it really helped me reflect personally about my career goals.
We have not set a concrete goal yet, but when we took part in this project last year, we raised more than £100. So, I would like to beat that this year if possible!”
