A GCU student had three reasons to celebrate this summer thanks to a hat-trick of graduations.

International Marketing student Anna Clare Connor gained a First Class Honours for her degree, and her success was made all the sweeter with her brother John and boyfriend Ewan also graduating.

Both completed their degrees at Strathclyde University, with John studying Sports Design Engineering and Ewan focusing on Chemical Engineering.

The trio are now set to head into the world of work - but not before taking a moment to savour the occasion.

Anna explained: “We basically got a few photos done and then went into town for dinner and drinks. We also got pictures taken outside our universities, which was really nice

We obviously wouldn’t have been able to graduate together if it was normal times, so it was great for us to get the gowns and have that experience with each other.

My brother initially started doing chemical engineering before moving into his other degree, so it was a bit strange graduating at the same time - especially since he’s a bit older than me!

She added: “I was really happy when my results came in because I wasn’t expecting to get a First Class Honours - it was definitely a good surprise. The last year hasn’t been easy but I actually preferred completing my lectures at home.”

Having finished the journey of University together from the comfort of home, Anna and Ewan are now looking ahead to the future together with excitement.

She said: “It’s nice to think we’re both going into the world of work. I’m not sure where we’ll end up but it’s a good feeling to be looking ahead.

One of the things that helped us was that we both properly understood how much work we had to complete over the last year. We helped each other out and were able to share any difficulties - which was vital.”

Anna added: “We’re waiting for the pandemic to calm down then I think we’ll definitely be getting a wee holiday!”
