CISA raise over £3000 for annual Charity Week fundraiser
Students from the Caledonian Islamic Students' Association have raised over £3000 for their international Charity Week fundraiser - an annual event which brings people together to raise money for children in need.
Charity Week, which took place in November this year, invites institutions from across the world to come together to raise money in whichever way they choose.
Students from CISA put together a week-long event series in the hopes to raise funds, such as; a quiz, “Call-A-Cupcake” challenge, laser tag and a games night.
CISA President Sohaib Saleem explained how much Charity Week has grown since its launch back in the year 2000. He said: “Charity Week is an annual fundraising event where people all over the world can take part. The first ever Charity Week started off as a project back in the year 2000, and all the volunteers had was a shoebox and a handwritten poster.
However, that didn’t matter because they all had a vision – to use the power of unity for everyone to come together to raise money for a good cause. Since then, it has grown and there are now institutions from all over the world taking part, including the UK, US, Canada and Germany. It grows each year, and CISA has actually been taking part since 2008!”
Sohaib, who regularly gets involved in the Charity Week fundraiser, has also signed up to work as an official Charity Week Ambassador for the Scotland team. Using his role, he has been helping to plan Scotland’s Charity Week since June and has even supported other Scottish universities in planning their fundraisers.
Sohaib and the members of CISA were delighted to have raised such a large amount of money for Charity Week. He said: “In total, we were able to raise £3,226.36 which is a big improvement from our fundraising last year.
We’re really pleased about it and would like to thank all of our members for being a part of it!”
