Finance, Investment & Risk student is awarded Best Performance prize for challenging module
A GCU student has had his hard work recognised after winning the prize for Best Performance on his course module.
Finance, Investment and Risk student Jonathan Wade completed the Pensions and Pension Planning module, which focuses on retirement savings and pension provisions.
Jonathan was delighted to have won the prize for Best Performance, especially after a difficult year. He said: “I am very pleased to have received this award after working hard through such a challenging year. Not only did this module encompass such a steep learning curve, but it was extremely insightful and has taught me skills that will be applicable both in future study and professional employment.
This module focussed largely on saving for retirement and delved into various types of pension provisions, their inherent risks, frameworks, tax regimes and the role of various stakeholders in the context of economic and demographic change.”
He added: “The coursework element of this module was particularly interesting as it involved preparing a report offering financial advice to an individual on their options upon retirement as well as a business owner about their options setting up a workplace pension scheme.”
Now looking back, Jonathan wanted to give some words of advice to students who will be taking part in the module next year. He said: “For students taking this module, I would advise them to try their best to keep up with the pace of the course.
This module involves reading a large amount of literature and unknown terminology that can be daunting at first but if you keep up to speed and complete the weekly assignments, it will make tackling the coursework and exam elements of the module a lot easier!”
