Students shine at GCU Fashion Showcase
Students, staff, industry figures and proud parents came together on Thursday night to celebrate the GCU Fashion Showcase 2022.
The event, sponsored by ACS Clothing, provided the perfect platform for talented fashion students to show off their creative flair.
BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Business student Kerry Keegan was one of those involved, and gave us an insight into how it felt to finally see her work modelled on the runway.
She said: “It didn’t feel real, to be honest. I was just sitting thinking ‘oh, I made that!’ – it’s not sunk in yet. It was really exciting and I actually had a wee tear in my eye when I saw it.”
Sponsors ACS Clothing specialise in rental fulfilment and clothing renewal, with environmental impact one of the main factors Kerry took into account when creating her work.
She explained: “My full design is 95% biodegradable and recyclable. The leather is cactus leather and the main idea is that there is less impact on the planet overall.
“Also, my outfit is completely unisex – anyone can wear it. I just wanted it to be inclusive because everyone should be able to wear what they want.”
With graduation coming up next month, Kerry is excited for a new chapter in her career and believes her time at GCU has equipped her well for whatever opportunity comes her way.
She said: “This whole experience has definitely cemented the fact that the knowledge I’ve gained can be used in future – I no longer feel like I’m just guessing! I now have the techniques and information from the lecturers that I can take to further my career within the industry.”
