GCU takes great pride in providing exceptional student support. We offer a full range of services to help make your time at university as fulfilling and enjoyable as possible. Don’t let things get on top of you, seek out the support you need.
You will be offered an initial intake appointment within 1-2 weeks. Please note current wait time for an appointment to begin counselling is 6 weeks.
The Wellbeing Service aims to offer appropriate help as quickly and efficiently as possible. In order to help us to do this we would be grateful if you could complete the online form. A member of the team will contact you within a few days. In the meantime you may find our self-help resources useful. All initial appointments will take place via MS teams. Unfortunately, at this time, we are only able to offer wellbeing appointments and counselling to students who are still living in the UK. If you are struggling and not living in the UK, you can access support through the online 24/7 facilitated mental health support forum, Togetherall - 24/7 Support.
We are only able to offer wellbeing appointments and counselling to currently registered students at GCU, up to the date of graduation.
All students who access help through the Wellbeing Service must be registered with a GP. If you are not currently registered with a GP, use this link to find your local practice.
The Wellbeing Service is staffed between 9-5pm Monday-Friday. Please note the Student Wellbeing Service is not an emergency service. If someone you know is expressing thoughts of suicide, self-harm or risk-taking behaviour, and you have a high concern for their safety, advise them to contact their GP and arrange an appointment immediately.
If you think the person may be at immediate risk of harming themselves or someone else (i.e. threatening to take their own life or the life of another person), call the emergency services on 999.
