Settling in
Congratulations on your choice to study at Glasgow Caledonian University. There are some key activities that we recommend all of our new students complete. By taking care of formalities and taking part in social and academic welcome sessions, you will feel at home here in no time.
Our International Welcome Programme is also packed full of activities for all new students and is a great way to ensure that your GCU experience is truly international.
Your programme organiser may organise specific sessions during Induction week and beyond to support direct entry students (i.e. students coming directly into level 2 or 3 of a programme). The University runs a mentoring scheme to help direct entry students make the transition from FE College to University. Student Mentors are existing GCU students who know exactly what it is like to be a new student at University. They have been there, seen it, done it and they can help!
International students receive the same adjustments and support as all other Glasgow Caledonian University students. If you are an International student looking for support or guidance head over to our International Induction pages which will help you during your Induction and your time at GCU.
Your joining instructions email will explain how to get your student ID card, either collecting on campus or through the post. Make sure you provide the photo we need to produce your card as well as register online, even if you are not in a hurry to receive your card. Your account for some university systems are only activated when we produce your card, so delays can cause you problems later.
If you are applying for an Part Time Fee Grant be sure you make your application on time.
We recognise that the transition of moving into new surroundings and leaving friend groups from home can for somewhat isolating and unsettling for some students. Here at GCU, our aim is to ensure that we establish a community where everyone feels welcome and where students can settle into their studies and wider university life as smoothly as possible. Find out how we can support you. your parents, carers and families of students.
