Changes to your circumstances
This page includes information on changes you must report to the VISA Team during your studies.
If your circumstances change during your studies, the UK Home Office may need to be informed and there could be implications for your Student Visa. Some changes must be reported by you and will not affect your visa - for instance, a change of address. Other changes, such as early completion and or change of course, must be reported by your visa sponsor and may result in visa curtailment.
Please inform the VISA Team via email if any of the following apply to you:
- You are expected to complete your studies before the course end date stated on your CAS
- You are expected to exit the UK at any point during your studies. If this is during term time, this also requires approval from your academic programme staff.
- You wish to change to another programme. This also requires approval from academic programme staff.
- You wish to take a period of time out from your studies. This also requires approval from academic programme staff. Please note it is not possible for a Student Visa holder to take time out of more than four weeks while remaining in the UK. Any time out over two weeks but less than four would require visa compliance approval.
- You do not have any studies for 60 days or more. If this applies to you please note the VISA Team would be required to withdraw sponsorship of your Student Visa.
- You require additional time to complete your studies and may require a Student Visa extension
- There has been a change in your immigration status or you intend to change your immigration status during your studies
- You have lost your BRP or passport
- You have obtained a new passport. When you obtain a new passport you must complete an MCC form to update UKVI
- You have obtained a new BRP or digital status
- The UKVI has contacted you regarding your leave, for example cancellation of leave.
We can then advise you on any associated visa implications.
When GCU submits a report to the Home Office that may affect your immigration status, you will be notified of this via email and given relevant support and advice.
Please also note, it is important you update your student record if any of your personal/contact details change, including your term-time address, telephone number, or email address.
