Glasgow Caledonian University provide a wireless network for use by GCU staff and students called eduroam.
GCU is part of the Jisc Roaming service - which means that members of the University can use eduroam at thousands of participating educational institutions around the world. This service is provided for our own users as well as academic visitors from other eligible institutions to the University.

Wireless Access for visitors

Visitors to GCU can use the eduroam wireless network if their home institution supports it.
External visitors to GCU who cannot use eduroam can use the 'Wifi Guest' network. This network is the same as '_The Cloud' network found in public places across the UK.
You can log in to 'Wifi Guest' using your existing '_The Cloud' credentials, or set up a new account which you can then use wherever '_The Cloud' is available. Further information can be found here .
What are the minimum software & hardware requirements for connection?

The wireless network is compatible for use with Windows, MacOS, Android & iOS devices. Your device can use eduroam if it supports the WPA2 Enterprise wireless networking standard. Devices which don't support WPA2 Enterprise capabilities will not be able to connect. Contact your device manufacturers’ support to find out if it can connect to a WPA2 Enterprise network.
Can I use my own equipment?

Yes, you can connect to the eduroam network as long as it meets the required standard.
What levels of access are available?

There is only one level of access now available to students; eduroam. This access is essentially authenticated public access, which allows connection to the internet via a web browser.
Where can I connect?

The wireless network is available in all buildings on campus.
Can I use the wireless networks at other Universities and Colleges?

You can use eduroam at any participating eduroam site. When you visit other sites you don't need to change anything. If your device is properly configured to work with eduroam at Glasgow Caledonian University, it will work at other eduroam sites. See our eduroam web pages.

Is it secure?

When you use eduroam , the communications between your device and the wireless network are protected using industry standard encryption. This gives you the highest level of protection we are able to offer.
Can I read my student e-mail (Outlook Live Account)?

Yes, if you are connected to the wireless network you will be able to access your student email account.
Can I access my student home drive 'H:' via the wireless network?

Can I use internet based VoIP software such as Skype?

Yes, this has been tested and does work, although we cannot provide any support for these applications.
Can I use Peer to Peer file sharing software?
