Academic and work experience

I hold a master’s degree in Public Health - Health Promotion with distinction from Leeds Beckett University, UK. My undergraduate degree was in Medical Laboratory Science and Technology from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

I have more than three years' experience of working in academia. I taught health promotion modules in the department of Sports Science and Health Promotion at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (Kakamega, Kenya). I left to pursue my doctorate at Glasgow Caledonian University. I currently teach aspects of Research Methods and select topics in Public Health as a sessional lecturer at GCU London.

I have undertaken roles in diverse sectors such as banking, community development, academic mentorship, entrepreneurship, medical laboratory and research. I am an Equity African Leadership Programme alumnus and a Commonwealth Shared Scholarship fellow, having received the awards in 2010 and 2016 respectively.

PhD Project and Research Interests

My current doctoral project seeks to develop a social capital theory of change to promote young people's mental health. Social capital is considered a social determinant of health and a significant etiological factor of health inequalities across the societal divide. Many studies show a significant association between young peoples' health and wellbeing and their relationships and social networks.

My research seeks to map out the multiple pathways in the social capital mental health axis and combine the state of art literature with expert consensus. The combined knowledge will be used to design a generic theory of change that is amenable to contextual modifications for global application of social capital in mental health interventions.

My research interests cut across Health promotion and Asset-based public health. I am an enthusiast of mixed methodology research that leverages the strengths of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to develop practical solutions to societal problems.
