Reducing construction waste

Glasgow Caledonian researchers developed a tool to calculate the ‘true cost’ of waste on Scottish construction sites by itemising and quantifying waste more accurately.

The tool has now been adopted by Zero Waste Scotland as part of its Site Waste Reduction Protocol which records and quantifies waste, analyses the reasons for waste, and calculates the financial and environmental costs.

Understanding the root causes of construction waste is vital to developing better waste reduction strategies.
