Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Learning and Teaching Skills Development Series

GCU is committed to providing an excellent student learning experience. If you are a postgraduate research student involved in teaching and student learning we have an introductory skills development series to support you to deliver this, and to help you feel confident in your learning and teaching. Designed and delivered by the department of Academic Development and Student Learning, the GTA Learning and Teaching Skills Development Series aims to give you an understanding of effective teaching and some practical skills to support your teaching practice and development. Topics covered in the series include:
An introduction to classroom dynamics An introduction to online teaching Teaching small groups Giving effective feedback Planning and managing your classes The GTA series runs three times per year and comprises a variety of synchronous, asynchronous and on campus learning opportunities and experiences. Your expected time commitment is approximately 10 hours. This includes the completion of a reflective ‘Record of Learning’. On completion of the series you will receive a Certificate of Completion to demonstrate you have met the University’s expectations for GTA teaching preparation.
The next intake of the GTA Learning and Teaching Skills Development Series is in August 2023, with the four tutorials scheduled on the following dates:
