Dr Alex Oliver is a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and is a Fellow of AdvanceHE.
Alex contributes to teaching and supervision of student projects across BSc Applied Psychology and taught postgraduate programmes (DPsych Counselling, DPsych Health, and DPsych Sport and Exercise).
Alex’s research interests relate to metacognitive processes within performance contexts and his PhD (Glasgow Caledonian University 2021) explored meta-attention in golfers. Alex has actively published research findings in peer-reviewed academic journals and shared his research and practice at conferences. Alex has also shared his research with lay audiences and his research has been featured in several national newspapers.
Alex is undertaking further training in Sport and Exercise Psychology through BASES’ SEPAR route and has provided psychological support to a range of professional and amateur sport clubs and organisations as well as providing individual one-to-one support to athletes.
In 2023 Alex was elected to join the British Psychological Society Division of Sport and Exercise committee for a period of two years. Alex currently leads the CPD activities in the division.
