Babakalli Alkali is a Professor in Maintenance and Reliability Engineering and the Head of Department for Mechanical Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University. His main research interests lie in the field of Industrial Maintenance and Reliability Modelling and its Application in Business and Industry. This also includes Energy Assets, Risk, Resilience and Integrity Management, Predictive Maintenance and Optimisation, AI and Data Analytics, Statistical Analysis, Stochastic Processes, Redundancy and Availability Assessment. He has led several KTPs projects within the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment including Siemens Mobility, Mitsubishi Electric’s Air Conditioning Systems, and Abellio Scotrail partnership. He is a Fellow of Operational Research Society (FORS), Fellow Royal Statistical Society (FRSS), Fellow Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (FIMA), and Fellow Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
He has published over 80 scholarly papers in international journals and conferences proceedings. He was a Director of Studies for 9 PhD completions.
Prior to joining GCU he worked as a Research Fellow in the Department of Management Science at Strathclyde University and gained a PhD in Operational Research and Applied Mathematical Statistics from Salford University, MSc Operational Research and Applied Statistics from Salford University, BSc in Statistics from University of Maiduguri (Nigeria).
