Benjamin Fisher is a Lecturer in Environment and GIS in the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment. He has previously provided guest lectures and tutorials at both Masters and Undergraduate level and joined Glasgow Caledonian University full time at the beginning of 2019. Ben is a Chartered Geographer (GIS) and the Vice Chair of the Association for Geographic Information (AGI) Scotland Committee.
Ben has 15 years in-industry experience working for Environmental and Engineering consultancies on both UK and International projects. Ben has provided GIS input into major engineering and environmental projects in sectors including Renewables, Transport, Highways, Coastal Management and Utilities working in multi-disciplinary project teams. Ben has worked on projects including Norfolk Vanguard Offshore Wind Farm, Crossrail, Nottingham Express Transit and the Duelling of the A9.
Ben has previously also been seconded to Scottish Water as an Environmental Advisor working on Controlled Activities Regulations (CAR) licensing and associated environmental reports for Scottish Water project sites including the Tyndrum Water Treatment Works.
Ben has a Masters in Environmental Management from the University of Stirling, within his study Ben completed a research work placement at the Institute for Ecology and Environmental Protection at the Zittau\Gorlitz University of Applied Sciences, Germany. Bens role was primarily working on using the ‘Erosion 3D’ GIS based soil erosion model for a transboundary catchment. The application of this model was to contribute to the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive
