Ben is a Senior Lecturer who graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (2005). He is a Registered Nurse Teacher (2016) and a Senior Fellow (2020) with the Advance HE (Higher Education Academy). Ben has an MSc in Psychosocial Interventions (2015) and completed a PhD investigating mindfulness-based interventions with people experiencing anxiety and depression symptoms after stroke (2021). Ben has clinical experience in pre-hospital emergency care (2000-02), addiction services (2005-09), and primary care mental health (2009-15). Ben works in the Department of Nursing and Community Health (since 2015) and is an experienced educator, researcher, and academic leader. Ben is Chair of the Nursing and Community Health Research Ethics Committee (since 2017) and current Chair for the University Research Ethics and Integrity Subcommittee (since 2020). Ben previously held external positions as an Expert Member (2017-2023) and Committee Chair (2019-23) with the West of Scotland Research Ethics Service. Ben is currently the Deputy Editor for Content with Evidence-Based Nursing (since 2023) and previously sat on the editorial board for Mental Health Practice (2019-22). Ben supervises several doctoral students and has expertise in mental health, psychological therapies, education, mixed methods research, and research ethics.
