Christine Monaghan

Lecturer, Practice Academic Lead - Dietetics

Department of Occupational Therapy, and Human Nutrition and Dietetics

I work as a Practice Academic Lead on both the BSc (Hon) Human Nutrition and Dietetics programme.

I help prepare and support students for the practice education component of their programme by delivering tutorials and workshops looking at key areas for placement such as reflective practice, assessment and feedback, building portfolios of evidence.

I lead the Placement A Campus programme, which is currently embedded into Trimester A for Level 2 undergraduate students.

I am one of the facilitators on the Preparation for Professional Practice module for Health and Social Care module which all Allied Health Professions students undertake in Level 1 of their programmes.

I deliver lectures on polycystic ovary disease and critique of complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) and I have a keen interest in counselling skills for dietitians. I also have an interest in developing Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) models for student learning. I am the lead in our department for looking at ways to diversify our programmes to better reflect the societies we live in.

I also have a role in Practice Education, both uni-and multi-professional, where I facilitate workshops on key areas of practice education.

I am the dietetic representative on the HEI Practice Education Group. I also represent GCU on the Operational Group (Dietetics) where I work with colleagues from Queen Margaret University and The Robert Gordon University.

I am a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and am registered as a Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council.
