Dominic Duckett

Lecturer in Risk Management

Dominic is a recently appointed Lecturer in Risk Management within Risk Accounting and Finance. He remains an honorary researcher at the James Hutton Institute where he worked previously from 2020. He gained a PhD from Lancaster University Management School in 2010 in the Department of Management Science.

Dominic has a strong publication record. His principal research interests are around social dimensions of risk, including an active interest in socio-technical risks, for example, food systems in which food and nutrition security questions arise, water systems including water reuse within circular economies, digital infrastructures such as electronic identification (EID), pandemic response, and climate change. He applies social theories of risk to pressing social issues, notably Cultural Theory of Risk, the Risk Society, and the Social Amplification of Risk Framework (SARF).

He has a track record as a reviewer having recently reviewed the final report of a project for the University of. Grenoble Alpes Risk - Risk@Univ. 2021, and is a BBSRC Funding Call Reviewer. He provides expert consultancy, serving recently as an invited think tank member and expert scenario planning advisor for the SEFARI and Highlands and Islands Enterprise COVID19 Response – Food and Drink Sector.

He has been a member of the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) since 2011 and a regular presenter at the annual meeting in the US and at SRA Europe. He regularly reviews for international academic journals including Risk Analysis, Journal of Risk Research, Risk Management, and Futures and Foresight Science.
