Dr Elaine Duncan who joined GCU in 1993 is a psychologist and counsellor. She holds a Senior Lecturer position and is the Co-Director of the psychology route through the Social Science programme within GCU. She is a Chartered Scientist an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a HCPC registered Sport and exercise Psychologist. Her research expertise includes the potential benefits of emotive writing, positive psychology, designing and implementing interventions to increase wellbeing and the promotion of physical activity.
Current collaborations see her applying this expertise within the field of self-management and secondary prevention in stroke survivors, carers and health professionals. Elaine is the representative for Scotland within the European Network for Positive Psychology and frequent consultant for third sector and small businesses. She has an on-going Principal Consultant position with the Centre for Confidence and Wellbeing.
An active reviewer for many journals, numerous grant applications (ESRC, MRC) and book proposals she is also accustomed to working with the media (radio, newspapers and television) believing that dissemination of research findings and good practice is an essential part of being a psychologist.
