Liz is Professor of Substance Use Research in the School of Nursing and Community Studies. She has a Psychology degree and is a registered mental health nurse, and her clinical background was based in substance use services in London and the South of England. She has an academic career spanning over 20 years. She obtained her PhD at Kings College, London in 2008 for a trial of training community mental health staff in substance use interventions. She has developed a programme of research related to the promotion of physical health in mental health including drugs and alcohol, smoking, sexual health and blood-borne viruses, and more recently w omen’s health and reproductive health. She has a track record of generating over £10million in grant income as a co-investigator and chief investigator. She has led 4 NIHR studies as CI. She is a co-investigator and theme lead for mental health in the ESRC Centre for Vulnerability and Policing Futures . In addition, she is chief Investigator for a national RCT of sexual health promotion for people with severe mental illness (MoreRESPECT). She has over 60 peer-reviewed publications related to her research. In addition to research, she has been extensively involved in supporting research capacity (early career researchers and clinical academics) in England and Scotland, as well as providing teaching to the undergraduate nursing programme related to her clinical and research interests. She is a member of the management team for the Scottish National Research Network for Mental Health. |
