Evelyn Strachan

Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing and Lead for Practice Learning

Evelyn is a registered adult nurse with over 20 years of nursing experience in both acute and community settings. Her background is firmly rooted in practice and in particular, critical care. Having worked as a Senior Charge Nurse (SCN) in Intensive Care, Evelyn led a team of nurses providing complex nursing care to critically ill patients requiring support for multi-organ failure. During this time working as an SCN in Intensive Care, Evelyn also taught on advanced life support (ALS) courses both within and outwith her own Health Board.

Evelyn is also a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse having worked as a Health Visitor and Nurse Prescriber providing public health support to vulnerable children and families.

Evelyn moved into nurse education in 2001 and joined GCU in 2007 as a nurse lecturer. She has held positions such as module facilitator, module leader, year leader, admissions tutor, adult pathway leader, programme leader and now, Lead for Practice Learning for the Department of Nursing and Community Health. Having been promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2021, Evelyn continues to lead and develop practice learning for GCU and represents GCU at regional and national fora.

Areas of professional interest include: Critical Care Nursing; Health Education and Health Promotion; Practice Learning; and the student experience.
