Dr Julie Roberts holds a PhD in Innovation Management from the University of the West of Scotland. In addition, she has an interdisciplinary background with an MSc in Technology Management from the University of Manchester and a BSc (Hons) Medical Biochemistry from the University of Glasgow.
Before joining Glasgow Caledonian in August 2013 she worked as a Knowledge Transfer Officer, supporting University research and commercial activities. Julie brings industry experience to her role having undertaken a project management position in a medical diagnostic company in Northern Ireland, where she worked for five years before joining the Higher Education sector in 2006.
Julie is Programme Leader for the prestigious Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) programme, supporting professional candidates with management experience to study towards a doctoral qualification, a practice-based equivalent to the PhD. She is also Module Leader for the part-time DBA module, Academic Skills and Reflective Practice. Julie also has the role of Co-Research and Engagement Lead for the Department of Management within Glasgow School for Business and Society at GCU.
At undergraduate level, Julie is Module Leader for the Management of Innovation and Creativity module and its associated delivery both in Glasgow and in Nepal at honours level. Julie teaches in a wide range of subject areas including; operations management, research methodology and entrepreneurship.
Julie is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), actively engaging in research to support her teaching practice. She is passionate about supporting students to engage with their learning, including carrying out research into critical incidents that impact learning behaviour.
Julie regularly supervises at undergraduate and master's levels. She has also supervised ten doctoral students to completion in a wide range of subject areas, methodologies and sector contexts. Julie engages widely in funded research and knowledge exchange projects as well as publishes for conferences, journals, and wider public dissemination.
