Dr Karen Fryer has had over 20 years’ experience in both the public and private (service and manufacturing) sectors before joining Glasgow Caledonian University as a lecturer. She was a Director of SMEs and worked in large multi-national organisations. Her key teaching areas are operations management, logistics management and sustainability/the circular economy at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels (including MBA students and work-based learning programmes). She has undergone formal Six Sigma Green Belt training and teaches on a certified Lean Yellow Belt course.
Dr Fryer is the Programme Leader for the MSc International Operations and Supply Chain Management course running in both Glasgow and Oman and has worked with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply to ensure that it meets their requirements and produces work-ready graduates.
In the same way that her teaching is focused on real-world applications, Dr Fryer’s research is firmly based on supporting organisations to use their own information to develop more sustainable business models.
Outwith her teaching responsibilities, Dr Fryer is a University Advisor for Enactus, supporting GCU students in making a sustainable difference for people locally.
