Dr Karen Lorimer (BA (Hons), MPhil, PhD, PGCAP, FHEA) is a Reader in Social Science and Health, in the School of Health and Life Sciences. She is a Sociologist, interested in sexual health, sexual wellbeing, capability approach and gender-based violence. She currently leads a British Academy/Leverhulme project on working-class women and sexual violence.

Karen is an active member of the Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Research Group and the Gender Research and Equalities Network (GREeN). She is a member of the Scottish Parliament Cross-Party Group on Sexual Health and Blood Borne Viruses, and is a member of the Scottish Government's National Monitoring and Research Group (NMRG).

She is a member of the Human Development and Capability Association (HDCA), and co-coordinates the thematic group 'Gender and Sexuality'.

Karen completed the PGCert in Academic Practice in 2008 and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is alumni of both the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Young Academy of Scotland (2011-2016) and Global Young Academy (2013-2018), having been elected to Co-Chair in both organisations.
