Leona is a registered occupational therapist and lecturer across the BSc and MSc occupational therapy programmes at GCU. Her additional roles within the department include undergraduate level 2 co-ordinator and diverse practice based learning (PrBL) co-ordinator.
Leona took up the role at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2018 and completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice in 2020, gaining fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. She is currently engaged in part time PhD studies (CSOT project) to build capability for case study research to contribute to the evidence base for occupational therapy. Leona’s research has been awarded two individual funding awards from the Elizabeth Casson Trust.
Prior to working in GCU, Leona’s clinical background was with adults in a variety of settings; acute medical, orthopaedics, care of the elderly, front door services and community rehabilitation. Leona’s clinical experience spans across Glasgow, London and the development of a diverse practice role within a carers association in Melbourne, Australia. From this experience, Leona has developed an interest in the value of diverse practice based learning in student education.
