Lorraine is a Lecturer in Vision Sciences. She graduated from GCU with a BSc in Ophthalmic Dispensing in 2003 and BSc (Hons) in Optometry in 2006. She continued postgraduate study after a few years in community practice and completed her PhD entitled “Anatomical and Optical Correlates of the Peripheral Retina in Myopia”, at GCU in 2013.
Lorraine was then appointed as a post–doctoral researcher at University of Edinburgh, working with a diverse team of clinicians and researchers on a Wellcome Trust funded translational project entitled “Development and validation of a novel device for detailed visual field testing”.
In 2015 Lorraine returned to GCU, appointed as a Lecturer in Vision Sciences and has since been awarded Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is an experienced shared care optometrist and has continued to work in clinical practice in parallel with her academic pursuits. Lorraine completed her Independent Prescribing qualification in 2018 and has utilised this substantially in clinical practice since.
Lorraine teaches across all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Department of Vision Sciences. She is Module Leader for “General & Ocular Pharmacology” and teaches on other modules focused on clinical skills, therapeutics and ocular disease. At a post graduate level, Lorraine has been an invited peer review facilitator, presented at CPD events and has developed CPD for College of Optometrists.
Her main research interests include developments in technology for detecting glaucoma, visual field testing technology, retinal image quality and myopia progression and development.
