Mark is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Nursing and Community Health at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).
He joined GCU from the University of the West of Scotland in late 2021 and has spent over ten years in higher education. Prior to this period, he served in the Royal Air Force as a nurse, gaining experience in a range of acute and specialist areas, and also worked in the Scottish Prison Service as a Practitioner Nurse. Mark currently contributes to pre-registration nursing and post-graduate programmes. This includes module leadership for MSc Education in Health and Social Care and MSc Leading and Managing Complex Care in Adult Nursing.
Mark leads the department Educational Research Group which promotes research-informed development of the nurse education curriculum. The group undertakes research into innovative pedagogy and explores student nurses’ experiences during their studies.
As a member of the Safeguarding Health through Infection Prevention (SHIP) research group, Mark has contributed to international projects and the drafting of a small research grant.
He is currently co-authoring a book designed to develop nursing students’ understanding of the social sciences, which is due for publication in mid-2023.
